Working for Us

The Work:
Along with strawberry and raspberry picking ( piece rate), the following work can be offered on a daily contractual basis, or as a agreed with the management:

tunnel work (erection, dismantling, skinning) hours as agreed
packhouse work - hours as agreed
crop production tasks ( planting, weeding, etc )
Irrigation maintenance and repair hours as agreed

The Workers:
We employ staff throughout the season from March through to October (our last Everest pickings and then tidy up before the winter sinks in).

Applicants need to be 17 years or older, and residents of the UK or EU. If you come from a Commonwealth country, you will need a Working Holidaymaker's visa, or other evidence that you can work legally in the UK. Unfortunately, we cannot help you obtain work permits or visas.

Strawberry picking is hard, physical work, so you need to be fit, able, willing and prepared for lifting, carrying and bending for long periods. You will also be required to comply with food hygiene regulations and high standards of quality control. The day starts at 08:30 and finishes at 16:30. These are average stop and start times. We pick everyday, whatever the weather, so you will need wet weather gear as well as sunscreen, and sturdy footwear. You will be paid on a piecework basis - cash at the end of the day.

We offer good accomodation with showers, cooking and recreational facilities. Cairntradlin is committed to ensuring that, as far as is reasonably practicable, our fresh produce is produced without exploitation of labour, and that all avenues for the employment of staff are legitimate and comply with all current legal requirements. Occasionally we will offer positions of responsibility to students who show particular competence in their work. Again this will only be provided on a daily basis and there is no guarantee of further employment.

We have a maximum of 50 students on the farm predominantly Eastern European but with some Kiwis, occasional Aussie, France, Spain, Sweden, Finland.

Come and earn good money and if you work hard you can play hard as well. During the season we have ceilidhs (Scottish dances), castle visits, Lonach gathering etc., BBQ's.
